In celebration of my new computer, I've decided to try a simple experiment and you can be my guinea pigs. Actually, I probably could've just kept track of things on paper, but you know... Razz

In Star Wars Insider Issue 100 (one of the few I own), there was a fan survey deciding the 100 Best Things About Star Wars Ever so I thought it'd be fun to try The Best Thing About Star Wars Ever. I'll be using the winners of the magazine (characters, planets, ships etc) and, by the process of elimination and popular vote, we will decide what the best thing about Star Wars is.

Once I have my judging panel, I will pit two things against each other (i.e. Jacen Solo vs. AT ATs) and we'll vote for which is better and keep going until we have a winner.

Hopefully this won't get boring, but it would be useful for me to familiarize myself with my computer's programs as I've never really used a Mac before.

Who wants to be a judge? The more the merrier.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Smile

Well, I'm tempted to decline simply because you're using a Mac. However, I shall throw my hat, along with other body parts, into the ring.

Awesome. Smile

I think I'll start the first round on Sunday so, if you want to be a judge and you haven't signed up yet, please do so before then. If you miss this and you still want to do it, PM me.

Allrighty, it is time. Before we begin, here are some things to keep in mind:
1. The oppenents are chosen completely at random, so don't blame me for forcing you to make heart-breaking decisions.
2. There are a few surprising things that either made it or didn't make it into the 100. For example, Aarba the Hutt made it, but Lando Calrissian did not. Confused Remember, I didn't pick them.
3. This is not a dueling round.

Round I, Match I:

Imperial Star Destroyer

vs.

Yaddle

For my part I'm going to say the Imperial Star Destroyer.

Agreed. How can Yaddle, who appears only briefly, compare to that moment, at the very beginning, where the ImpStar first enters our screens in A New Hope, first the point, and then the body, which just keeps coming, and coming, and coming?
Star Destroyer wins it hands down for me.

Also agreed. The Star Destroyer struck fear into the hearts of the galaxy's citizens for years. Yaddle made a brief appearance in TPM then died in a kid's book. Weak.

Ditto on the Destroyer. Epic vs barely there? Epic always wins...

In one corner, we have Yaddle. The female Yoda, perhaps even more enigmatic than the old Jedi Grandmaster himself. What's more intriguing than only seeing one creature like Yoda, and knowing that his species and backstory are off-limits? How about seeing a second, decidedly female creature. Were they an item? Did they know each other on a more personal level, given their shared heritage? Well, Yaddle gets offed in a young readers book. Easily one of the most underutilized Jedi to ever appear onscreen, and it was clearly done because any further appearance might answer questions about Yoda and their shared species. Perhaps one of the biggest cover-ups in the EU? I'm starting to think so.

In the other corner, we have the Imperial Star Destroyer. Definitely an iconic image, but also decidedly weak. Using what is apparently classic Imperial design, it boasts its shield generators in two massive towers where enemies can easily target them for quick destruction. Oh, and then the video games decided to give it a third shield generator on its underside. Still an easy target. There are different levels of the Imperial Star Destroyer, as who can forget how awesome it was to see the regular Star Destroyers being dwarfed by the Super Star Destroyer, but as this debate is about the classic Imperial Star Destroyer, I'll leave it to that. An iconic image, but nothing that strikes fear in the heart of its enemies.

Still, this debate is about the 100 Best Things About Star Wars Ever. In that case, the Imperial Star Destroyer, for all its iconic glory, wins for me as a much better thing about Star Wars than the poor legacy that Yaddle has. But hey, I'll give her a runner-up award for being one of the most intriguing characters we know nothing about.
