What would everyone think if Thrawn returned at some point, possibly as the clone that Zahn has hinted at in and out of universe. Would this just be another showing that nobody is really dead in Star Wars, or would the return be a good one?

I think the ship has sailed on such a clone, given the utility of its presence during the Yuuzhan Vong War or subsequent conflicts, and absence in those conflicts. I suppose it could be explained that he was involved with the Chiss Ascendancy in the former conflict, outside of view, but that doesn't really wash given their view of him.

I suppose the best possible way to incorporate it is that if a baby Thrawn clone was born when he dies, then he would be in his thirties, same age as Jaina. But then the clone wouldn't have the flash learning, so wouldn't technically be Thrawn in the same way that a Spaarti clone would.

The idea itself doesn't bother me, but I think the timeline has progressed too far for it to make much sense.

I'm not crazy about the idea. I'd see it as proof that they've run out of ideas for new villains and have to revert back to using old ones. I'd prefer the EU move forward instead of rehashing times past.

I do like the weight that a Thrawn clone would have, though. How poignant would it be to have a clone who KNOWS he is a clone, and the struggle to live up to the epic bar that has been raised?

I definitely think there is some great potential for storytelling with something like this.

Indeed. That, for me, would make for some interesting reading. But I don't think it could be any more than a standalone, and it would have to not be the focus of the story. As Zahn says, if they were to bring him back in such a fashion, it would be to fight for the good guys against an outside threat, likely from the Unknown Regions. To have that invasion as the main story would be best, and have Thrawn Mk II the good guy, but with a crisis of conscience that could put the GA and Empire in jeodardy.

I think too much EU timeline has passed. It would be an awkward fit anywhere previous to the current storyline. And with the Imperial Remnant currently run by jag(and forseeably into the future), I don't see it working.

That's too bad, cause he was a great character.

I say use him in a post-Legacy War timeline. At that point, the Jedi are pretty week, so a galactic threat could very well require the services of Thrawn.

I'm undecided. Like Vile Zero said, a cloned Thrawn could have potential, especially because it wouldn't exactly be Thrawn.

But, on the other hand, returning villains can get a little cheesey so...

That would be a great action figure - Thrawn's head on a mando figure!

I agree that Thrawn as a clone is giving us a lot of clones. We already have Riptide coming around the corner. However I loved the character enough that I would give the authors a shot at it. I would love to see a post-legacy era Thrawn working with the good guys. If I had my choice I would bring him back for the rumored Wraith Squadron book. Too much?

The Wraith Squadron book is official isn't it? I'm pretty sure.

Yes it was announced to replace ImpCom 2 in the publishing line up

Yep, not rumored. Del Rey announced it officially at Celebration V. Of course, as we all know, any delay or cancellation could happen this far out - but we are officially getting it.

I take it you haven't read the Zahn/Stackpole story in Tales of the Empire, then? Cool
