Thanks to Nathan and Andrew for mentioning my little blog's articles regarding Adult and Young Adult Novels. That was a lot bigger of a discussion then I expected.

It was interesting to hear your take on the various authors.

I liked how Nathan was measuring things with 'meh,' as if that were a legitimate form of review!
Andrew: So, what did you think of the book?
Nathan: Meh
Andrew: Really? I thought it was ooh!
Nathan: Well, it was borderline groan, but I felt it was a good meh.
Andrew: See, I'd have to disagree. I thought it was borderline yippee! but I stuck to the ooh!

Oh my... does this really happen? That sounds so comical that it would instantly be my favorite Solo Sound moment. I have to go listen.

it's not working for me for some reason, I feel rejected from the "meh"isms! I'm getting an error from both the direct MP3 download and when trying to play it from the website.

No Laughing I actually agreed with Nathan on most of the meh, besides regarding Kemp's "Third Lesson" slightly above due to the fact that it did, in fact, add to Malgus' character development significantly, even if it was in bit of a tired form of doing so. The TOR web-comic and short story, though, we pretty meh for me, and I will say that the third novel and hopefully this upcoming print comic will bring more adventures to the TOR era that actually do more than just world-build (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think we're good with it in this era now.)

Yeah-- I just tested and did, too. I think I know what the problem may be so I'll take a look at it and update this thread when it's fixed; sorry about that.

AWESOME, I'm looking forward to hearing it once it's fixed. I'm glad it's not just an error with my system preventing me from downloading it, that's a relief.

Regarding "Meh" vs. "Ooh"...

If that were the case, there'd be no need to have a show at all. Or at least, it could run only a few minutes long. Smile

One thing we don't want to do, though, is to fill the show with a bunch of b.s. fluff where we play up things we didn't really enjoy, or bash things that shouldn't be. This time around, it just so happened that I wasn't a big fan of anything we reviewed except Deceived.

Right-- we want to get to the point, while stilling giving enough information about the actual items so that people who may never have heard of them know about it and want to continue listening. We are in an interesting spot, though-- we have listeners who know much about the EU, but then we have listeners just starting and maybe just picked up one of the items we're discussing; this is why we'll always be sure to make a point of telling listeners if a novel, comic, or game is a good starting point, and why.

Indeed, and I thank you both for that. Because the EU Review started out when I first got into the novels, it was a great source of knowledge for me.

Oh, and don't worry about the 'meh' and 'ooh' thing. Just thought it was funny. Smile

By the way, that's how a lot of stuff started with the Star Wars Action News Book Club Podcast. You wouldn't know it because we have recorded TONS of roundtables but only five have ever been released. However, on a lot of books, it was everyone being "oooh" and me being the dissenter with a lot of "meh."
