It's a Lucas retcon. Hutt's were extremely hard to kill until TCW and Ziro came along Wink

To be fair, Leia choked one out and she's not exactly what you would call very strong. She's no weaklings at all, but if Hutts were as strong and tough as some earlier works made them out to be, Jabba should have been easily able to stop Leia despite being choked.

What's fair? No one could ever get that close before. That was part of the beauty, Jabba's own obsession with humanoid females ended up putting one strong in the Force at the end of a chain. That still wouldn't have meant that his skin wasn't super strong. I mean it's not like the change ruins anything. It just makes Hutts a little less Dangerous enemies.

I don't want to think about creepy BDSM erotic asphyxiation Jabba.

It doesn't much matter if he was dead, unconscious or just stunned since the sail barge blew up after that. And hey, if you want him to survive that too you can always just say that he fell into the Sarlaac Pitt afterwards. That takes care of that.

Well Aarrba the Hutt was stabbed to death. Blasters are stronger than spears I think. (Sith alchemistry and Ewoks in E.VI are excluded)

If LFL declared that the SWEU is AU, would that fix the continuity blotches? Would you still buy Star Wars literature?

Yes, as long as the stories and characters are written well.

I really don't like the idea of AU/T. I like one timeline of events, unless explicitly and obviously not meant to be, like Tales and Infinities comics.

Edit: TBH, it really doesn't matter if LFL says it's AU. If it fits together (albeit with a bit of bending and sellotaping) and the fans and authors agree to make it one timeline, it will be one timeline.

I've already stopped spending money on the EU. I still take out the books from my library and read most new releases just to stay current with the discussion on here. As far as I'm concerned the EU already is the AU and unfortunately most of the fire has gone out of my fandom.

I haven't bought anything in a long time. Last thing I got was Revan for Christmas, and I haven't even read it. My desire to rush out to each new book is completely gone. I almost want to read the newest books just to keep up to date on the Cantina, as Reep said. But when I'm already 6 months or more behind on a release...my interest usually declines completely. Sad

Honestly I'm a fan of the films (minus TPM and AotC) and everything else takes a backseat to them. I wouldn't mind if we had an alternate "Ultimate"-esque EU timeline that was less convoluted and more organized.

Every story has to be cleared by Lucas Licensing before it gets published. Behind-the-scenes Del Rey and Dark Horse authors and editors work with LFL Senior Editor Jennifer Heddle. All cover art needes LFL approval. All continuity changes are documented by Leland Chee. In other words, we can't seperate LFL from Star Wars publishing.

Sure we can, we just stick our fingers in our ears and go lalalala. Like we do now with The Clone Wars.

But seriously, its not like LFL is going to say to the EU, "Hey that makes sense with continuity, change it!" The only reason other franchises don't follow continuity is because it's a pain in the butt to do, but they don't try to purposely stop that from happening.

I don't know what AU means?

But SW has a guy that that is his job. What's the problem? The problem is, George and Dave don't even care to ask. They figure Leland Chee can just mop up after them.

Alternate Universe which is now referred to as Infinities.
