My number one change would be: Thrawn does not die in The Last Command. Why? Because Thrawn is one of my all time favorite characters and I'd love to see him back. Imagine Thrawn commanding ships in the Yuuzhan Vong war...Thrawn conquers the Dark Nest...Thrawn is the one to save the day in Invincible rather than Daala...Thrawn becomes Chief of State...Thrawn defeats Abeloth.
I can dream
Runner up is Anakin Solo doesn't die. But I don't want Anakin and Jacen simply changing places. Perhaps Jacen could still have been the one to save the day with the Vong, but Anakin would be the one to save Jacen from the dark side. |
Now it's my understanding that Jacen and Anakin completely swapped characterization when it was decided which was going to die, which makes sense because it's also my recollection that Anakin was more like Jacen is in the NJO in his Junior Jedi Knights series, whereas Jacen was more of the "Luke successor" in Young Jedi Knights.
Now, were this the case and their characterizations weren't swapped, Anakin would essentially undergo the same character arc that Jacen does and ultimately have the union with the unifying Force that defeats Onimi.
I would think that this would completely salvage the Expanded Universe in its current state, because there's no way Lucas would let another Anakin turn to the dark side, thus disallowing LOTF from ever existing.
