I would think that this would completely salvage the Expanded Universe in its current state, because there's no way Lucas would let another Anakin turn to the dark side, thus disallowing LOTF from ever existing.

Good point.

@Dark_Sol: You mentioned Jacen having to protect his daughter. What if Anakin was the one who had a kid instead (with Tahiri) and then went off on the whole protection thing?

Hmm, nah, I'd rather not see Anakin deal with messy dark side story lines. I'd much rather see him as a Jedi whose core beliefs were strong enough to withstand the temptations of the dark side.

If it was Anakin with the child and not Jacen the story could follow same pattern I guess.
It's just by the time Anakin dies, to me he wasn't a fleshed out character. I just would have liked to see more depth there or background.

It's true tho.
I mean he died a cple books into NJO. Never finished that run
Young Jedi Temple stories were good but didn't really concentrate on his character.
We need ebooks or something else to make him "real"

Shocked Are you telling me my memories of Anakin were implanted? Am I a clone of the real Padme? Identity crisis! Wink

He was a good character but before killing him off it would have been nice to see him fleshed out more

*sad look*

Character deaths aside, the one thing I'd like most to change is when Tenel Ka became the leader of Hapes. In essence, it was a character death because they exiled her to Hapes so her character couldn't really be used in any future books. They took her out of the picture. Thus I'd undo that and have someone else take the throne so Tenel Ka could go on being a Jedi.

Really? I kind of liked that. The cast is more diverse, now with Tahiri as a non-Jedi, and Ka as a non-Jedi. Besides, it could come in handy later on, with stories set there, and about the Hapan people.

I'm with Life. Tenel Ka becoming the Queen Mother doesn't have to mean the end for her character as long as stories are set on Hapes from time to time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Wink

Except that Tenel Ka in Hapes has pretty much meant the end of her character. It

I feel like she became a plot device to get Allana center stage.

I'll admit there has always been the possibility of continuing to use Tenel Ka if they ever return to Hapes for some serious adventure. However, wouldn't it be fun to see Tenel Ka flying a starfighter as the Jedi wage war against the Lost Tribe of the Sith? Wouldn't it be cool to see her fight a Sith in lightsaber combat, maybe back to back with Lowbacca?

But that's not happening. You can't have the leader of Hapes engaging in ground combat or space combat or going off to do battle alongside the Jedi. She's stuck as a leader doing politics and the most we'll ever see out of her is fending off assassination plots.

By making her a figure head, they severely limited their options with her. Look what they did with Leia, they quickly took her out of the COS spot so she could go off on adventures. Jag is really the only example of a political leader who defies the norm as he constantly volunteers himself to help Jaina in pseudo Jedi missions.

Who knows, maybe Blood Oath could have given us a nice taste of what they can still do with Tenel Ka. All I know is we haven't seen much.

It's a sad day when you actually grow wistful for the Young Jedi Knights. This is a fact.
