The chosen one. Who is it?

So we all have an opinion on who is the chosen one and who brought balance to the Force. Will most of you say Anakin? Will some say Luke? What do you think? I want to see your opinions then I shall reveal my theory. (that's if no one posts it before me! Rolling Eyes

Anakin was. He brought literal balance to the Force (as seen in the movies) with two Sith (Vader and Palpatine) and two Jedi (Yoda and Obi-Wan).

George Lucas says Anakin was the Chosen One:

"Which brings us up to the films 4, 5, and 6, in which Anakin's offspring redeem him and allow him to fulfill the prophecy where he brings balance to the Force by doing away with the Sith and getting rid of evil in the universe..."

I kinda like it vague. There are so few Star Wars concepts left that let the fan decide what they believe.

Anakin Skywalker is/was The Chosen One. There's no way around that.

Yeah, George stated it without ambiguity. Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One. Even when he was Darth Vader, he was still the Chosen One, and brought balance to the Force. That's almost a direct quote from GL. GL said it in a documentary because of the debate that was going on at the time so he wanted to make it very clear that Anakin was the Chosen One who brought balance.

See, I wouldn't consider Darth Vader to be the Chosen One at all. The Force was brought to balance with Order 66.

The Force was out of balance in favor of the dark side in Episode II. That's why the Jedi's ability to use the Force was diminished. Order 66 just made it even worse.

You're assuming an absolute and direct correlation between the Jedi and Sith and light and dark sides, respectively.

Jedi =/= Light Side
Sith =/= Dark Side

Lucas says Anakin fulfilled the prophecy by destroying the Sith. If the Sith were directly correlated to the dark side, then he eliminated the dark side, which isn't balance at all.

The dark side exists naturally, but the Sith through their machinations unbalance the Force toward it. The Jedi don't unbalance the Force toward the light side because they're allied with the Force, not to any side of the Force. They're keen on balance, that's why they want the Chosen One to balance the Force. And that's why they want to follow the will of the Force.
