On the one hand, I am slightly worried that even our admin is going to the Dark Side of visiting another forum, but on the other, I'm quite tickled pink that he comes back with a pretty nifty idea. I know this isn't how this thread works (hopefully I can be forgiven, just this once), but I'm giving 100 Life Points to OMB for sheer moxi.
Luckily, I have a little story for this thread. I was in town with a couple of friends; one of which was my friend, whom we call Blackadder. This stems from his surname, which is spelt 'Hadhe', but is pronounced 'add-er', and we connected that to the TV show, Blackadder. Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that, though we understand how to pronounce it properly, many don't, and one example cropped up yesterday, which was quite humorous, yet slightly iffy.
We went to the bank because Graeme (that's Blackadder's first name. Don't worry, I asked him if I could retell this, first) was having difficulties with his bank account. The bank was very busy, and so he put his name down in the ledger, and then we all sat down together, waiting. Eventually, it came to be his turn, however, the man who called out his name, of course, pronounced it wrongly. So very wrongly. He called out, 'Mr G. Had.'
Which, as you can imagine, was not the best thing to call out in a crowded public place, and the other customers went deathly quiet, but quickly my friends and I defused the situation. Luckily the others managed to see the funny side! _________________ I am a Star Wars fan. That doesn't mean that I hate or love Jar Jar. That doesn't mean I hate or love Lucas, or agree or disagree 100% with him. That doesn't mean I prefer the PT over the OT, or vice versa. That doesn't mean I hate the EU, or even love all of it. These are not prerequisites. Being a man is not a prerequisite. Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.
