EU Newbie

Hey there! I'm Katie, 37, in Saint Louis, MO.

I've always been enamored with Star Wars from the moment I saw "A New Hope" in the theater as a youngling. Although I was never really fanatical about it, the movies have always been favorites of mine. I have also enjoyed so much of the related media - comic books, video games, the prequels - throughout my life. One of my best friends in High School was a huge collector of all things SW and EU, which I had thought odd at the time. Now I just wish I had listened to him and joined in the mirth. Rolling Eyes

It was only last fall when a certain cable channel started showing marathons of all 6 core movies (which also coincided with me replaying my "Lego Star Wars" games) that I decided to take a look into the EU. I already owned "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" and picked up the "Dark Nest" trilogy along the way; I'm about half-way through the former and 1/4 of the way through the latter. So I'm not only new to the EU but new to the fandom as well.

Other things that I like: video games (both current and retro), music production/remixing, singing in a local choir, anime/manga, Piers Anthony, Stephen King, Kevin Smith, Firefly, Red Dwarf, Japanese culture, Adult Swim circa 2003. I have been in an open yet committed relationship with my partner Allison for the last 7 years, although she's more of the "Buffy/Angel" and "Charmed" fandoms than I.

I haven't read the Dark Nest trilogy myself, but it seems to be the most reviled of the EU works. I commend your courage for starting with them. Wink

A librarian recommended Piers Anthony to me a while back, but I still haven't checked him out.

@Reepicheep: Huh. I had no idea. It was actually reading the Wikipedia page about Jaina Solo that led me to buy it. If it's reviled, then maybe it's at least good starter material. I'm also considering some of the Sith-oriented novels as well.

You know, "Legacy of the Force" doesn't get much love, but it was my EU introduction. It holds a soft spot for me to this day.
