I think if you excise the Anakin-Padme scenes following their kiss at the lake, then have it go on like normal with them acting normal, then kissing prior to entry to the arena with the elimination of the line "I thought we agreed not to love," the romance works more organically and has a subtlety to it that Lucas as a director is completely terrified of using.
I think removing the scene where Anakin confesses mass murder to Padme would also help, especially since it's another scene where a character is just telling the audience his thought processes rather than allowing the audience to work it out through the funeral scene. And it's kind of redundant with the funeral scene anyway. _________________ "Trust not the words of a poet, as he is born to seduce.
