Star Wars: Crucible by Troy Denning

My problem isn't them making Leia look old, it's that her hairstyle makes her look like she is covering up a couple of horns or something on the top of her head.

It's decent enough, but there seems to be no points of interest on the cover beyond 'it's Han, Luke and Leia together! And they look older!' which makes me think they're doing it to interest new customers. Nothing wrong with that, as such, it just doesn't interest me.

Agreed, I was thinking the same. There's nothing to capture my attention. It's kind of boring, in all honesty. But it probably will be effective in drawing in those who aren't already readers of the EU. Or even the casual reader. So I can see the reasoning.

While I see where you guys are coming from, I can honestly say that no covers since the NJO have really been all that interesting though.

The TOR ones aren't bad, but LOTF, FOTJ, DN, Scourge, CC/RT, Choices, etc. are all basically "here's a picture of one (occasinally two) character(s) who may or may not be central to the story contained within". Or in the case of X-wing, two fighters from a scene that took all of 3 pages.

There's very little on any of them that's really of interest. I wish they'd go back to the old cover styles of Bantum, or even better, something like the Japanese NJO covers. But I don't think that's likely to happen anytime soon.

I know what you mean. The covers aren't very exciting anymore. Bantam covers had so much more life! And the Japanese covers...if only. Sad

There are some beautiful covers. Deceived was gorgeous, in my opinion. There were also a couple others I have to remember. And the NJO covers were generally amazing. Lately, not so much.

Ah, well. We just love to complain. Not that it's entirely undeserved, though.

I sorta like LOTF and FOTJ covers for showing updated pictures of some characters. Yes, Luke and Jacen were overexposed, but we got new pictures of Jag, Kenth Hamner, Tahiri, Tenel Ka, and Ben.

Covers are always starting to make me wonder who will die though. Jacen on Invincible, Mara on Sacrifice, Kenth on Vortex, i'll admit its not a regular thing but all it does is make me tense now. Mara's right, the NJO covers were the best Del Rey has had to offer so far.

The characters look kind of odd. When I saw the original art, I didn't say anything because I thought it was a very early design just to build up hype, but the final cover is almost identical.

I liked the cover art from LotF the best.

I think Star Wars has consistently had good and bad covers throughout it's history. The Thrawn covers really aren't that good. The old X-Wing covers, some of them looked nice. Some of the Japanese covers for the X-wing covers were awful. Some of the NJO covers were awful. With FOTJ, some were better than others.

Some of the best looking covers, in my opinion, would be Revan, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and Deceived. The artwork on those are pretty gorgeous.

The only Bantam love I'll give is for books like the Black Fleet series, Planet of Twilight, Courtship, New Rebellion, etc. cause the covers had the OT/epic feel to them. I miss that good old fashioned artwork with the characters and ships.

Agreed. I thought the FOTJ covers were completely uninspired. The LOTF and others were ok, I guess.

I still hope they will go to Mortis and replace the Ones. That way we get to retire the characters without killing them. I mean, I don't mind killing them, I just don't think Lucas will ever allow it. And it has become ridiculous.
