Cerrinea Master Joined: 09 Jun 2009 Posts: 1411 Recently there was a fundraiser to help Michael cover some of the cost of his medical expenses. I've spoken with Maya Bohnhoff and one of the best things you can do to show support for Michael is to buy his books. BAD BATCH. It's been a loooong time since I read Medstar, but wasn't the bota mutating (or something) which made it worthless anyway? Idk that having the bota go bad in 2 years is such a suspension of disbelief. And in the real world antibiotics have a short shelf life. _________________ Roqoo Depot co-founder.

As the resident med student, its very variable. Some compounds break down in matters of minutes if exposed to air or light (hence the airtight brown glass bottles), while others can literally sit around for years. Often natural products break down much more quickly. Two years is quite reasonable, especially if not cared for correctly. Also, remember the Med Star Duology, they made a big deal about how fragile the Bota was? two years, not properly cared for, hidden inside a droid? Not going to help it much.

As the resident nurse with a few decades of experience, I can tell you that the general shelf life if kept in the proper conditions is on average 2 years. That means stored in a cool dry place, in those brown bottles. Environment plays a factor. If you're living in the tropics, shelf life could be as little as 6 months. Of course, there are always exceptions. But when the expiration date on your bottle of antibiotics has been reached, you'd better toss those puppies away. Taking them could be dangerous. I still wouldn't pop the aspirin that's been sitting in the glove compartment of your car for 3 years. Antibiotics are a different matter; they're more sensitive and break down faster, and they're even more susceptible to improper storage. I think both Darth Henning and I know a little bit more about this than some reporter considering it's both our field of education and practice. _________________ Roqoo Depot co-founder.

Then again, I read for the enterainment and as a result I don't pay close attention to small details like that. They are good books though, and if you can set aside the dating issue you'll love them.
