Hey, this is a really interesting topic you've brought up here, Mara, well done. It's actually something I 'd been thinking about for a long time, I mean, most of the names are totally different.
Here's how I pronounce the names:
Ton Phanan - Not too complicated, like 'Tom' but with an n
Daala - Dah-la, I'm sorry, but 'Day-la' sounds a bit dumb to me
Vergere - I pronounce this like in the audio books, e.g. French style; Ver-je-er
Ysanne Isard - Esan Eye-sard
Sebatyne - Seh-ba-taa-in
Mara - Mar-uh, definitely
Exar Kun - Ex-zar Coon
Naga Sadow - Nah-ga Sad-ow
Even Piell - Even Pii-el
Xizor - She-zor (listen to the audiobook)
Cilghal - Sil-gal
Tycho Celchu - Tie-co Sell-coo
Nolaa Tarkona - No-Lah Tar-cone-ah
Qwi Xux - I used to say Kw-ee Zooks, but after learning the pronunciation of Xizor, maybe it should be Kw-ee Shooks? Not sure really
Basically, I try to get away from the standard english pronunciation and go for a more latin based approach, i.e. vowel sounds open rather than more closed (as they tend to be in english), this gives it a more exotic sound to english-trained ears. _________________
