Hmm... I'm not sure if I'd trust it, but it's up to you.

Mara, I can tell you that the look is real. ARCs (advanced reading copies) or given out free to sites, papers, blogs, etc., but they aren't in hardcover or paperback form. They appear, as seen in that picture, as a trade paperback like the recent CW novels. My Outcast one did. I didn't get the ARC for Omen (a staffer did, however), but it looks pretty real to me. Also, after the reviewer reads the novel, they are free to do what they wish with their ARC.

I didn't even know it was coming out anytime soon, but I'll anxiously wait to hear what people think of it, details on the plots (aka spoilers), and see if this series is worth checking out yet (though I still refuse to even bother). Good luck to everyone!!

Spoiler Free Thoughts: It is short, especially considering the prologue is a rehash from LOTF. Length aside, the content of the book does jump around a lot going back and forth between the present and two years before. However, the action that takes place is nice and the typical Star Wars adventures that follow therein are still as enjoyable as always. Overall this is a pretty light hearted read. Don't expect the deep thought provoking depth of Stover. Much like Outcast, it keeps going and doesn't dig in too far into anyone thing or a super expansive galactic event. But the pieces are falling together for that event to take place, though it's still a little hard to see what that event will look like exactly.

One final note, I feel that some of the things I do dislike about this book 'story wise' are not so much faults of the author, but a result of the overarching story line, like the crazy Jedi disease and Daala being in power. The disease thing just seems a little silly to me right now. Of course that might change in the future, but right now it just seems a little too extreme. And for Daala, she's acting like her normal Imperial self that is a tad too selfish and moronic. Truthfully I'm having trouble trying to find a character I can bond with, but it is still early in the series, so we'll see.

Now for some details on the story...

For a Star Wars book, I'd give it a 3/5. It wasn't anything terribly special, but I still enjoyed reading it.

This weekend I'll have it Very Happy From what I hear, it's got enough quality to compensate for its shortness. A thing that personally really bothers me is when people complain about length; it's too short so it's garbage. No, a lot of the times the short ones are winners because that author understands what matters.

I know many people paid 20 bucks or more for it (I always get SW hardcovers for 19 at Borders), but no one forced you to buy the hardcover. A paperback version will be out in six months.
