Overprotective? Or misunderstanding?

hmm, I dont know. First of all, they say their son got obsessed at the age of 2, and that he would talk to everyone about it....... ya. Sorry, but at the age of 2, I dont even think I was able to even understand anything going on, much less talk to anybody about it.

So ya, I think this story is a bit ridiculous. And if your kid is "feverish" and "short-circuiting," then you have plenty of other problems that need to be solved first. I dont know, from reading this story, the parents sound completely ignorant and insane in my opinion.

I know lots of parents that talk this way about their kids, but its their lack of parenting skills that creates the problem.

Oookay...
Although I do find it a bit strange how a two-year old can understand and enjoy Star Wars that much (btw, if he was two, how could he read the fandex? I don't know any two-year-olds who could master names like 'Sidious'... Confused

). Secondly, what's the big deal? So the kid likes Star Wars... so what?

I thought it was pretty funny, honestly. But I do agree that the mother may have been exaggerating a bit. Though...I thought she said the boy was 3. Which would make him old enough to chatter about Star Wars. I know a 5 year old who loved Star Wars when he was 3. He used to ask me about the guys with the long noses (even at 3 he picked up that I was a Star Wars lover). I never knew what he was talking about, but I completely understood him. Sooo...some of them can talk pretty well pretty early. I didn't notice that about reading the fandex, yeah...he certainly couldn't read at that age. Unless she meant the older brother read it to him, which is entirely possible.

But anyway, as for the parents getting all worked up about it. Did they really think they needed to put him in solitary confinement/quarantine like Star Wars was a disease? Good grief, he was 3! He would grow up loving it like many other boys, but he would probably move on to at least a more gentle obsession, or even outgrow it all together. No reason to go all whacky because he fell in love with it on first viewing. Do you know how many kids do that with so many movies? It's just what happens. They're kids, they're impressionable. Doesn't mean it's a life threatening thing.

So yeah. I think they kind of overreacted, but...whatever. I suppose they were just trying to do what was best.

Exactly. When I first saw Star Wars, I was alittle off the wall too, but, while I'm definately still as crazy about it, I don't pester people any more. Well... not usually. Embarassed

They went THREE YEARS before watching it again? Three years...without watching a Star Wars movie?

I know I'd go nuts.

In my opinion this is a case of underindulgence. Those kids need Star Wars. Their parents are doling it out like it was sips from the Holy Grail. Give those kids what they need...

Parents worry about anything their kids are into that doesn't make them out to be zombies anymore. If kids aren't calm cool and uncaring the parents think something is wrong. So she was worried because the kid was thinking over things like Darth Vader and Obi-Wan. The kid needs to know that not all people in the world are good, and that there are people like Obi-Wan who could stand up for their mistakes. The fact that he grasped that Darth Vader being Luke's father meant that a good person went bad is nothing short of amazing, and what does the mother do? "Oh no, my child is showing signs of concious thought at 3! Oh woe is me, Star Wars is to blame for my child asking questions that I don't (as a parent) want the responsibility of answering!" Pathetic. I'm with Skuldren, buy the kid a lightsaber!!!
