YES! Skuldren pretty much summed it up, Why try to compare the two? They are totally different things.

And besides, you should be thankful, without Trek, we wouldn't have Star Wars. George Lucas thinks the whole debate is pointless, and he considers himself a Trekkie.
Yea I consider myself a Trekkie but i love star wars also, so I agree we should just not compare them, they're awesome in their own ways

Wars and Trek MUST be compared. It is the order of nature.

Which is funny, because I wasn't too fond of the movie when I saw it in theaters, but when we got it on DVD I fell in love with it. Definitely better than Episode I and II of Star Wars.

Star Trek (2009) vs Episode I & II....

You know there's some interesting points to be made here. Star Wars Episode I & II had really strong, effective villains, where as Star Trek did not. Yet Star Trek had superior characterizations and main characters. Kirk, Spock and were far greater than Anakin and Jar Jar. Yet with overall storyline, the victory goes to Star Wars: a deeply Sithy plot by Palpatine to fool the Jedi Order and take over the galaxy with a clone army is tremendously better than some mining ship from the future traveling through time and pwning everyone else's old tech.

Perhaps the ultimate question is which reboot was better? I think I'd have to say I was more satisfied with Star Trek than I was Episode I (when I first saw it in the theater). As for Episode II, it put up more of a fight due to Jango and a strong finish with Yoda vs Dooku...but was it enough to make up for whiny Anakin?

I'm going to go with Star Trek on this one. I'd seriously rather see a sequel to the Star Trek movie than another Star Wars movie with Anakin Skywalker.

Episode I wasn't a reboot, though, it was a prequel.

And yes, I agree that I would rather see more alt. universe Trek movies than more Anakin movies. However, Episode III roundhouse kicks Star Trek to the dust...

Wasn't the new Star Trek movie a prequel also. I thought it was, though I could be wrong.

It was a prequel-sequel. One of the few of its kind. Smile

Where you place it on the timeline really depends on how you want to look at it. It's a...certain point of view. Wink

No, it's not a prequel. It's an alternate universe that doesn't play into the Original Series.

I thought it was kind of a massive retcon sort of thing. Guess Star Wars isn't unique in having beloved cannon/characters dramatically altered lately.

See but Star Trek the film was very careful to state that canon was there and important, but that an alternate timeline had also been created and now they can do whatever they want without treading on canon. They were very careful of that so as not to offend the fans. I wish we got that dignity...

Now I'm really confused. I think I'll stick with Star Wars...

The whole alternate timeline thing seemed really contrived to me.
