Is not this just Gods POV as well? Though many say Gods POV is the Truth. But it's still one more POV Wink

I stand by it- Truth is always about POV.

And since people's views conflict one will say the other is wrong and vice verse. There is no single truth in life, Gods mysteries were to large for one truth.

and yes, we have.

But then these types of questions have a shelf life in forums.

Ah, but God's point of view is really the only one that matters. Ours is just based on man's limited vision. Smile

But that POV is but one of many truths. That's the rub- there is no truth. Vergere said it best You'll find no truth in me.

This is where faith is critical you must have faith the truth you choose to believe in is right.

Man likes to apply meaning to things, to categorize and quantify and describe. God needs not to do this. Look at the thing he made, it speaks for itself, one just needs to look.

Many live in the belief that their truth is THE TRUTH, and all others are misguided, yet all these truths can be in a harmony or ignorance of each other and live out their lives never conflicted, both thinking theirs is the real truth, but the end there is no real truth, there is life, there is death, and there is man in the middle trying to understand his place in Gods plan.

But even this is but a pov, and is a truth of sorts but falls as there is no truth.

That's why there is no answer to these types of questions. It's just too mind boggling to even try to say what God means for in any situation.

So God's point of view is only one of many truths? Going to have to strongly disagree with you there.

I think we need a two new threads. One to discuss all things religion, and one to discuss relativism.

First off, Padme: Love the signature!!! Smile

My stance: Totally for it. I have an example to go with it, and i will elaborate later, since its been a long weekend and im getting tired Smile So in Milawaukee, my county, about maybe 5 days ago, this woman and her two kids were murdered. No one knew anything about what happened. Well, yesterday they found the guys that did it. I will enclose what happened to them in spoiler tags since it is pretty sickening, but in short two robbers killed the mom and her two and three year old boys.

I am extremely disturbed by this, as most everyone should be. The thing that makes me the most sick, is that Wisconsin doesnt do the death penalty. So the two robbers, human pieces of crap, only get a life sentence in jail for brutally killing a mother and her young, innocent children. They ended thier lives horrifically, and get to live the rest of lives out in a nice Wisconsin prison. It just makes me sick. People that do things like that desreve the death penalty, imo

Thanks! Mara's little sister made it for me. She really likes making avatars and signatures. Smile

As for your story, that's horrible. I agree that it's sad that people like that only get life sentences. Especially if they show no sign of being sorry. I have a personal experience that I'm not going to go into here, but let's just say that our judicial system is messed up and it's becoming more and more common that people who commit unspeakable crimes get out of prison in 50 years or so. Just wrong.

Exactly. By saying relativism is right, you're already contradicting yourself because you just said nothing is right. And when people get in arguments, how can they even think they are right if there is no Right and Wrong. They have to be judging it something.

Nicely said, Reep. Smile

Thank C.S. Lewis, I was mostly just paraphrasing him. Wink

@IR2. It isn't so much what people think is right, but what they feel is right. Someone who does something wrong might build up some dumb 'excuse' as to why they do it, there's usually a nagging feeling. It's gotta come from somewhere. Most bad things (murder, lying, cheating etc) can nearly always be profiting for the person. If humanity's only goal is to survive and Right and Wrong is a point of view, why do they feel guilt after they do wrong?

Back on topic, the death penalty is such a hard issue. My stance is against it (and I've wrote an essay aginst it for school), but I'm not as passionate and steadfast about my opinion about the death penalty as I am for other issues (like relativism Razz ).

This relativism issue interests me. I think it needs a thread of it's own.

A bit busy right now though, I might research this later.

Before I make one do you think it should be a bout relativism in Star Wars or relativism in general?

Go in general then we can apply each to SW, for their are MANY povs in Relativism.

And thus, the death penalty thread will fade into obscurity because once we have discussed a subject for any amount of time, we cannot stay on topic. Very Happy

Or not.

Continuing the discussion on the death penalty, what about how it applies to animals? Often when an animal, more often than not a dog, attacks a person, it is usually "put to sleep" ie. killed. So, what are your opinions on the death penalty and animals?

(lets try to avoid the euthanasia of animal shelters and merely discuss criminal cases were the animal is sentenced to be killed)

I've often heard of cases where people with pit bulls have their dogs get loose, or someone gets near them, and then that someone gets hurt or even killed. They always ended up killing the dog. I suppose there are a lot of reasons for this, but I always find a part of my self saying that it's not really the dog's fault, he's just doing what he was bred to do. Though having his owner killed instead would be a little drastic.

Hmmm, interesting. To me, it kind of depends on the case. Like if the dog killed or badly injured a child, if the person attacked had been warned by the owner and ignored it, if the dog had been bred to fight, etc. I'm an animal lover and it always makes me sad to see one put to sleep, but sometimes it has to be done.

Good question. I have lived with a dog (Mac) who was abused by his former owners and could be agressive around other dogs and people. People have advised (and sometimes threatened) to put him down, but we kept him until the end (he died of a heart attack, a few weeks ago). He used to bite, but not go all out just a snap, but he was a great dog with people he knew.

I don't really have an answer right now, but that's something to think about.

I'm for the death penalty. Murderers need to have punishment, and when they stoop down to that level, they don't have any rights anymore.
