Don't know if this is a silly question or not, but how many books/comics are there in the EU?

OK, don't judge me on this, I pride myself on a wide vocabulary Wink but I have a question;

Was "droid" a word before Star Wars? And for that matter, is it a word now, outside of SW?

(Just realised I'm the only one asking questions here Embarassed )

I've seen the word 'droid' outside of Star Wars. I forget where though.

The word 'droid' was indeed coined by George Lucas, and has come to be used in other science fiction universes, as well as real world applications - however, it is based on the word 'android' which was around in science fiction long before Star Wars.

I have another question.
I was just wondering if anyone knows when the first stormtroopers appeared.
I've not been able to pinpoint that point in SW-time yet, maybe someone else has?
Was it right after the Empire was declared or did it take a few years? I'm curious about it and really want to know because of a RPG-campaign I'm currently writing.

According to the Coruscant Nights books and Order 66 and Imperial Commando, the change was almost immediate. Everything was overhauled, new networks were put in place, new heirarchy, etc. That includes new armour for the clone troopers, so I'd put the change in armour (and name) as less than a month after Order 66 (though there is lee-way to extend that gap up to about three months after).

On the subject of Stormtroopers, do we know when the last Jango Fett clone was killed and the Stormtroopers were recruits-only?

I believe Zahn has stated that they were a mix, so it's probably more of factoring how long they live and when the last batch would have died off. Couldn't tell you off hand.

The last Jango clone was probably Klick in Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor.

This has always been a little confusing to me. I wonder if George Lucas intended the clones in the OT to be Jango clones still.

Yes.

I think the Empire probably stopped producing clones during the GCW. The Rebels destroyed Kamino's facilities in TFU2, and probably made an effort to attack clone facilities throughout the war. By the time of the Thrawn trilogy, stormtroopers were rare and Thrawn didn't like to waste them. And that was probably mostly conscripts and recruits. Per Zahn's Allegiance, the Empire made the stormtrooper corps not strictly clones about 9 BBY, which coincides with the Kamino Uprising, which I guess was actually 12 BBY, but in the three intervening years the corps was diversified with other prime clones than Jango.

That's always been in the movie. The sound effects of the guy hitting his head, and someone asking him if he's all right were even put in for the special editions. This bit is given an homage in Episode II when Jango bangs his head on the door of Slave I, as he lifts off from Kamino.
