JWWC 2

Welcome back readers. Some time has passed since my first editorial, and the world isn’t so focused on Darth Krayt. A much larger subject has entered the Star Wars news center. Before it gets brought up, I am not talking about the new Star Wars alarm clocks. I am, if you can imagine, speaking of a topic that is larger than an overpriced collectible (By the way, the words ‘overpriced’ and ‘collectible’ are two of the most common words that are used together in the same sentence. Look it up.) Inferno has officially hit shelves. For those of you who think that I’m about to go into a long, detailed review of the book; I hope you didn’t bet on it.
Unfortunately I decided to save the money that I would have spent buying the book, and simply get a free copy from the library. As I should have expected, the book was checked out at all of my local libraries. I was left with the choice to order the book online, or to purchase it at Borders. Having learned nothing from my past experiences with delivery, I foolishly ordered the book through the Internet. Weeks later, it has still yet to arrive.
So, Sunday night, when my editorial was due for the first time in weeks, I was lacking a topic. I searched the Internet, and came across an interesting blog entry on the Star Wars Blogs. Please read it, or you will be completely lost through the rest of the editorial. http://blogs.starwars.com/sarlacc-pitt/16. Also, look through the comments made by fellow Star Wars fans. Note that these are indeed Star Wars fans. Huge, convention going, action figure collecting, hardcore fans. They overflow the comments with complaints about the movies they adore. I know that some of my readers may be thinking, “That wouldn’t be me. Star Wars is perfect.”

No.

Wrong.

Star Wars is not perfect. Nothing is. Notice a certain comment made by Merryman-Lyon. He complains about the lines said in the first 30 minutes of the Episode III. That seems like a lot to whine about! I’ve looked at this guy, to see if he’s such a big complainer in his blog. From what I read, he seems to be a decent fan. He made entries that seem to express his real love for the Star Wars Saga. I see no signs of complaining anywhere else. Yet here, when everyone else is already doing it, he complains about every line that George Lucas wrote within the first 30 minutes of Episode III. He seems like a fan that goes with the crowd. I doubt he likes Star Wars that much; he probably just writes about how much he loves it because that’s what everybody else does.
Do you feel mad at this fan? Do wonder how he can criticize the greatest film series that ever existed? If there was still space on the comments section would you write about how perfect Star Wars is, and how all of these people are hypocrites?
Let me tell you something. Merryman-Lyon is someone that all of you now know. He’s me.
If you could type on that comment section that all of those people who complained are hypocrites, than you would be a worse fan than any of them. I think that I learned the secret to being the model Star Wars fan, as I typed my complaint. Want to know it?
A model Star Wars fan will be able to except that Star Wars is not perfect. I see fans that proclaim their love for the Saga, who shout about how it has no flaws. This is not true. I do dislike most of the lines within the first 30 minutes of Episode III. “Another happy landing”, for example, irritates me. However, I’ve learned the great method that will make me the better fan. I go with it. I know that Star Wars is not perfect, because George Lucas is not perfect. How can an imperfect person make a perfect movie? I’m not the only one with this knowledge. Everyone that typed a complaint understands the same concept that I do. Look at what most of them said after complaining. “The good outweighs the bad”.
So the Star Wars movies have some sticky spots. “Jar-Jar is pointless, Han shot first, George Lucas can’t write romance, and Hayden isn’t a Force Ghost.” Why complain? We know that we don’t like these things. I, obviously, find myself complaining at times too. If we simply go along with these things, than we will be the best fans that we can be. It doesn’t matter how much money we spend on collectibles every year (way too much in my case). Honestly, I could care less how many times you’ve watched the films. You could have seen Episode IV one time, loved it, found some thing that you didn’t like in it, but loved it anyway, and you would be as good of a fan as me.
Sorry if I seemed to preach. I promise that it will not be like this every week. I just thought that this would be a good point to bring up. There are always going to be things in the Star Wars movies that we dislike. It’s the good parts that we focus on, or else we wouldn’t be fans at all. Think a movie made up of bad parts from the Star Wars Saga In comparison to a Star Wars Saga being made of only good things, it would be pretty short.

May the Force be with you, always.

Old Master Ben
